Doncaster Scouts to travel to America for world jamboree event

A group of Scouts from Doncaster embark on an adventure of a lifetime next summer when they take part in a global event.

Fifteen youngsters will take part in the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, in the United States in July, next year.

More than 45,000 youngsters and volunteers from over 160 countries will descend on one huge campsite for two weeks of activities, fun and friendship making.

The Doncaster youngsters make up part of a unit of Scouts from across Yorkshire.

Unit leader Richard Hinchliffe said: "It's a great experience to meet people from different cultures and countries and a chance, in the ever-changing world, to mix and spend time with people from all over the world."

The World Scout Jamboree is an official educational event of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement and next year's event will be based on the theme of unlock a new world.

Activities will include rock climbing, mountain biking and zip lining.

There will only be opportunities to try new foods and discover more about other religions and cultures.
