Doncaster Rovers: Trialist Paul Taylor suffers injury blow

Paul Taylor's hopes of securing a contract with Doncaster Rovers have suffered a blow after he picked up a groin injury in training with the club.

The former Ipswich Town and Bradford City forward has been in training with Rovers for ten days after being invited for a trial by Grant McCann, who was his boss at Peterborough United.

But a groin injury has sidelined him and kept him out of last weekend's behind-closed-doors friendly with Leeds United at Cantley Park.

McCann has pledged Rovers will nurse him back to health and says he will keep an open mind about the 30-year-old's future as he returns to fitness.

"Tayls is injured though it's nothing bad," McCann said. "He's just felt his groin and he didn't play against Leeds.

"Tayls is someone I've known for a long time. He's a great lad and the boys enjoy having him around.

"We'll see how he is over the next few days.

"He won't be involved on Friday in the Birmingham friendly and possibly not the Grimsby game either.

"We'll keep him about. He's without a club and he's got himself injured here so I think it's only fair we get him right, whether it's for us or someone else."

McCann says it would be foolish to write off Taylor and not monitor his progress with a view to handing him a contract.

That is particularly pressing with the Rovers boss actively looking to add another body to his forward ranks.

McCann said: "You don't ,with someone like Tayls and his experience and quality, if he's fit, throw him away and say sorry there is nothing for you

"We're open to bringing one more in in that forward position."
