Doncaster Rovers: Tommy Rowe insists there is no issue with his hamstrings

Doncaster Rovers captain Tommy Rowe insists his current injury can only be put down to bad luck and not any on-going issue with his hamstring

Rowe is currently three weeks into a projected ten week absence after damaging his hamstring in the Checkatrade Trophy clash with Newcastle United U21 earlier this month.

That injury came after he underwent hamstring surgery in April and endured a summer of rehabilitation.

Rowe says there is no problem with his hamstrings and expects to be stronger than ever when he makes his return to the side.

'It's bad luck,' he said.

'Before this I've only missed six games with a hamstring injury in my career. Five of those were at the end of last season.

'That tells you everything you need to know.

'I've only had a hamstring injury at Doncaster Rovers.

'That only happened through an accumulation of playing on an injury, which we needed to at the time.

'It didn't get highlighted and we chose to play on it for the greater good of the team.

'It wasn't really bothering me at the time and once we made ourselves safe in the league, it was then time to have the operation.

'So it was five games last season and that is all I've missed with a hamstring injury.'

Rowe explained surgery left him susceptible to injury as he continued his recovery.

He said: 'I've never had hamstring injuries in my career but it's something that is part of the process of having the operation.

'It can happen. It doesn't happen all the time but it happened.

'It's something that on another day might not have happened. You will never know whether it's going to happen.

'It could have happened when we were going forward, it could have happened in training.

'Other than that, the recovery and rehab before that was excellent.

'I've had really encouraging chats with the specialist so it's something to look forward to.'
