Rovers travel to bottom of the table Colchester United tomorrow (3pm) hoping to end their 13-game sequence without a win.

On Monday (3pm) Doncaster then host a Blackpool side that leapfrogged them in the table last weekend following the last gasp defeat to Peterborough United - which left Rovers in the bottom four for the first time since October.

“The last nine games are all obviously vital,” said Ferguson.

“But Friday and Monday are going to be very pivotal in terms of where we are going to be for the last seven.

“If we play like we did in the second half against Peterborough, and we get a bit of luck, we’ll be fine. But we have to play like that.

“I’m confident we can.

“And it’s just about keeping the players’ spirits up now because clearly a result like that can be very, very damaging.”

The full time whistle last weekend saw Rovers’ players almost sink to their knees as one in despair.

Ferguson says it is crucial that everyone connected with the club stays strong.

“It’s not nice, it’s horrible and it never leaves your head no matter what you’re doing,” he said about his team’s horrendous run.

“It never goes away.

“But I’ve got to be strong. Mentally, I think I’m a very strong person and the players see that - and I’ve got to maintain that. Everyone has to be strong now, I think that’s important. And last weekend you saw that.

“It was nice to see that everyone stuck with us. The fans are not going to be happy but they stuck with us, and that’s going to be key.”
