Doncaster Rovers: Peterborough trip '˜just another game' for Posh legend Grant McCann

All eyes will be on Grant McCann this weekend as he makes his return to Peterborough United for the first time.

But the Doncaster Rovers boss insists it is simply business as usual as he takes his side to London Road.

A former Peterborough captain with more than 180 appearances to his name, McCann managed the club in 105 matches before being dismissed in February.

His sacking split the club's fanbase with many feeling it demonstrated harsh treatment of a bone fide Posh legend.

McCann is very likely to receive a warm welcome on Saturday afternoon. And there will be plenty of talk of the narrative implications of a former boss bidding to end the 100 per cent record of his former charges.

But McCann himself has played down any suggestions this game may hold special meaning.

'It's just another game really,' he said.

'It's one I'm looking forward to. It's another game.

'It's a game I feel we can go on to win.

'They have started the season well. Portsmouth had started the season well when they came to us last week and we should have beaten them comfortably.

'It's a big pitch there. We'll look to play our game, create plenty of chances and cause them problems.'

McCann's response to any question about Peterborough '“ particularly those referencing his past relationship with the club '“ has followed a similar pattern over the last week.

Acknowledging the question early, he quickly diverts the conversation away from him to the game itself and specifically Rovers' part in it.

But he was quick to scoff at any suggestion he may harbour any ill-feeling towards his former employers.

He said: 'I have no regrets whatsoever about how it ended.

'I had a great time there and I've still got a great relationship with a lot of people there.

'I saw Barry Fry the other day at Craig Mackail Smith's little boy and girl's birthday party.

'I've still got a good understanding with them. The chairman was brilliant with me all through my playing career and management career.

'I haven't got a bad word to say about the club.

'My boy still plays for the Under 13s there.

'It's a club close to my heart but in football you move on.

'My only focus now is doing well for Doncaster Rovers.

'I've got a good staff here and good players and we all want to go further in our careers.

'We want to get back into the Championship. That is our focus this year.'
