The Irish midfielder is certain to miss the crucial next four weeks due to a tear in his hamstring and boss Darren Ferguson cast major doubt over whether he would feature again this term.

"He'll be out for a period of time now, it could be the season," Ferguson said.

"He's torn his hamstring so it'll probably be four weeks minimum for Paul."

"It's a real blow because of all the experience he brings to us."

"It's not good news on that front unfortunately."

Defender Gary MacKenzie is unlikely to feature against Rochdale this weekend after suffering a groin strain.

Luke McCullough will return to the squad following his international duty with Northern Ireland.
