Mitchell Lund has returned to Doncaster Rovers to fight for a place in the squad according to boss Darren Ferguson.

Lund concluded his one month loan spell with National League side Wrexham on Saturday, following their 2-1 at Braintree.

The 20-year-old was an unused substitute at the weekend but made four starts during his month at the Racecourse Ground.

“He’s had the month we wanted him to have and now he’s back to try and get into the squad,” Ferguson told The Star.

“He’s done fine. We’ve had good communication with Wrexham, a club I know well, and the manager Dean Keates, who I know well.

“Mitchell has done well. They had a clean sheet last week and it was good for him to get back to speed because he was out for a long time.”

Lund has not featured for Rovers since August when he suffered kidney damage which forced him to avoid physical activity for four months.

Since then, Matty Blair has been regularly used as right back or wing back.

Ferguson believes he will have to use his squad over the next nine weeks as the season draws to a close.

Luke McCullough made a surprisingly early return to training yesterday following his knee ligament damage.

And Gary McSheffrey came off the bench for the final 17 minutes of Saturday’s draw with Crawley Town.

Ferguson said: “They’ll all be needed, I’m sure, towards the end of the season.

“McCullough back in training and another 20 minutes for Gaz.

“We’re organised a game the week after the Notts County game to get game time into them.

“I could do with getting one or two back because I think we’re a little bit light at the moment.

“It’ll be good to get Liam Mandeville and Joe Wright back.

“I probably need everyone before the end of the season.”

Mandeville should be available for Saturday’s clash with Cheltenham Town after recovering from an ankle injury.
