The 19-year-old twins left Rovers for Elland Road yesterday for an undisclosed fee which Evans described as ‘nominal.’

He also claimed West Ham United had a bid accepted by Rovers for the pair, who last week featured in a development squad game for the Hammers.

Evans said he had monitored centre back Paul and striker Jack while manager of Rotherham United but could not sign them.

“They’re signing as U21 players not first-team players and they be working mostly with [academy director] Paul Hart,” Evans told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“We need to replenish our Under-21s for the simple fact that so many youngsters have moved up to the first team - Lewie Coyle, Lewis Cook and Alex Mowatt before them.

“I looked at them when I was manager of Rotherham but I wasn’t able to do a deal.

“They’re both good players in their own right. They’ve both got the attributes we want.

“We heard that West Ham United had had an offer accepted so I sat down with the president [Massimo Cellino] and we agreed to match that offer.

“From there is was a decision for the boys.”

Jack said he had no hesitation in joining Leeds after learning of the interest.

He said: “It’s a massive club. As soon as I found out that Leeds wanted to bring us me here, I said yes straight away.”
