Doncaster Rovers: McCann disappointed in lack of Garratt interest

Grant McCann says it is disappointing that few clubs have shown an interest in taking Tyler Garratt away from Doncaster Rovers.

The 21-year-old is transfer-listed but played the full 90 minutes of Friday night's friendly with Birmingham City with McCann hoping he would catch the eye of scouts.

Garratt impressed, playing slightly out of position at centre half, making some key blocks as Rovers kept a strong Birmingham side at bay for 87 minutes before conceding the winner.

But McCann was left frustrated by the apparent lack of interest in the youngster.

"Tyler was impressive, really good, comfortable," McCann said.

"Even though he know he's a left back, I thought he was very good.

"It's disappointing really that there hasn't been many clubs showing an interest in him.

"I'm really surprised because his record in League One is great.

"I think he won six, drew six and lost two in League One last season.

"He'd be a very good signing for someone looking for a left back or left centre half on a free."

McCann is keen to ensure Garratt's career does not stagnate after admitting Danny Andrew and Danny Amos are ahead of him in the pecking order at Rovers.

But he says he would be happy for the former Bolton Wanderers defender to remain with the club and attempt to usurp his rivals.

"For a lad to have that ability, it's important that we get him some football.

"But if we don't, I'm comfortable with him staying with us.

"He won't be treated any differently to the rest of the group.

"And it's up to Tyler to knock on the door with Danny Amos and Danny Andrew.

"He's got some good competition."
