The 27-year-old midfielder has had a frustrating start to life at the Keepmoat Stadium after suffering a medial knee ligament injury on his debut at Southend United on the opening day of the season.

Crawford has appeared as a substitute in the last three league games and came through 90 minutes against Grimsby Town in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night.

The Scot is vying with Jermaine Anderson to replace Herbie Kane who will serve a one-game ban after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in last weekend's 4-0 home defeat to Fleetwood Town.

'Once I get back on the pitch hopefully I can show the fans what I can do,' said Crawford.

'Injuries happen so you just have to pick yourself up and get on with it.

'I'm back in amongst the squad now so hopefully I'll get a chance to start and maintain my position when I do get it.

'The gaffer's said to me I've being doing well, it's just been the fact the team has been doing so well that I can't go back in but that's credit to them.

'If I do get back in it should hopefully help me to go into a side that is doing well.

'We obviously made a few mistakes on Saturday but we've just got to dust ourselves down from that and learn from it.'

Sixth-placed Rovers travel to Rochdale following back-to-back league defeats against Accrington Stanley and Fleetwood.

Kane was the only player who started against Fleetwood to feature in the 2-0 win over Grimsby.

Alfie May scored both goals and is banging on the door for a starting spot in the front three.
