Doncaster Rovers have '˜no chance' of signing Tommy Rowe if relegated

Darren Ferguson has admitted that he has 'no chance' of signing Tommy Rowe if Doncaster Rovers are playing in League Two next season.

Rowe stole the show against Coventry City with an all-action display.

The on-loan Wolves midfielder is out of contract in the summer and is expected to move on from Molineux after failing to make an impact at the Championship club.

Rovers fans would welcome Rowe with open arms but Ferguson, when asked, was blunt about his chances of landing the 27-year-old on a permanent basis.

“He’s available but if we go down there’s no chance we’ll get him,” said Ferguson.

“If we stay up there’s half a chance.”

On Rowe’s man-of-the-match display against the Sky Blues, Ferguson added: “It was a performance and a half, but that’s what he brings.

“For me he is above this level. We’re lucky to have him.

“It took him a couple of games to get up to speed because he hadn’t been playing for a bit.

“But he’s got quality, good physical strength and he gets you a goal. He was outstanding.”

According to Ferguson, the arrival of Rowe and also Gary McSheffrey has been key in Rovers wrestling themselves out of a 17-game sequence without a win and giving themselves hope of pulling off a great escape.

“I don’t want to disrespect anyone here but I have to say that I think McSheffrey and Rowe have made a huge difference to us,” said Rovers’ boss.

“I think the players we’ve brought in have done really well. [Craig] Alcock’s been outstanding.

“I think the recruitment that we have done has been good, very good actually.”
