Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann is hoping to see more of his players nominated for awards despite being named himself on the manager of the month shortlist.

McCann is up for the League One prize alongside Charlton Athletic's Lee Bowyer, John Coleman of Accrington Stanley and Kenny Jackett of Portsmouth.

But he was much more interested in the nomination for striker John Marquis, who is up for the player of the month award in the division.

'I'm pleased,' McCann said.

'It's not about me. It's about everybody.

'It's about my staff, it's about the team.

'It's nice to pick up accolades and John deserves his nomination for the goals he's scored.

'Hopefully there are more accolades for our players as the season goes on.'

Marquis is up against Portsmouth's Jamal Lowe, Barnsley striker Kieffer Moore and Blackpool's Jay Spearing for the player of the month prize.

The striker netted six goals in five games during September, moving onto 50 goals for the club in the process.

Rovers themselves won four and drew one in the five game stretch during the month.

McCann believes the nominations for him and Marquis reflect how well the Rovers squad have bought into his methods and plans.

'I think it does,' he said.

'We're 11 games in, we've got 21 points.

'If we win on Saturday against Fleetwood, we're back to two points per game.'

The winners of both awards will be announced at 6am on Friday morning.
