Doncaster Rovers: Ferguson's frustration at 'concentration lapses' in Accrington defeat

Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson struggled to hide his frustration after his side suffered a late defeat in the season-opener at Accrington Stanley.

Rovers had twice fought back from a goal down courtesy of efforts from Tommy Rowe and Andy Williams - the latter of which came eight minutes from time.

But Sean McConville struck in added time to claim all three points for the hosts.

And Ferguson was in no doubt, despite a solid performance in possession from his side, that the result was a poor one.

"It's about results, it's a results-based business as well all know," Ferguson said. "It's a bad start for us. A bad result.

"I think what cost us the game is lapses in concentration.

"It was three really soft goals that we gave away and that has cost us the game, clearly.

"The message to them was make sure we don't concede, that we don't lose the game.

"But we switched off at the far side. It's from our set piece that they've scored and we can't be conceding goals like that.

"The one thing I said to them was that concentration was key and we had so many lapses in concentration.

"Poor goals we lost, three really poor goals. The first the boy turned with no one near him in the box and we've played him onside. The second one the shot should be stopped and then it should be saved. And the third one we've left the man, even though it was a good finish.

"They kept going Accrington but I said to the players that is what they are going to get this season.

"Teams will feel they have nothing to lose against us so they will go and try to win the game. They're very attack-minded like ourselves.

"It's a bad start in terms of the result and certain things I wasn't happy with today."
