Doncaster Rovers: Ferguson pleased with night's work against Rossington Main

Riccardo Calder helped Doncaster Rovers get their pre-season schedule off to a winning start after signing on loan from Aston Villa yesterday.

The 20-year-old midfielder played in the first half of last night’s 4-0 win at Rossington Main after penning a temporary deal until January.

However, the appearance of Calder was rather overshadowed by the sight of Paul Green in a Rovers shirt once again.

The 33-year-old midfielder is training with Doncaster and could make a return to the Keepmoat Stadium eight years after leaving the club for Derby County.

James Coppinger, Will Longbottom, Tommy Rowe and Andy Williams all found the net for Rovers against their NCEL hosts.

“I’m really pleased,” said Darren Ferguson.

“We played two different teams obviously and it’s a fitness exercise at the end of the day, but it doesn’t look like we picked up any knocks.

“They were good. We knocked it about quickly, like we wanted. Certain things we worked on they did well and we scored some good goals. The quality of the goals was very good so that was pleasing. It was a good night.

“The standard of the opposition is irrelevant really. I was pleased with how the lads went about it.”
