Rovers are currently four points adrift of safety in 22nd spot and have seven games to save their League One status, starting today at Rochdale.

While revealing he has asked his players to be more aggressive, Ferguson says he has looked to highlight the positive aspects of recent performances.

“I think in a situation like this you’ve got to be consistent in the message you give them,” he told The Star.

“Also, we have to really focus on the positive stuff we’ve seen.

“We’re continually showing them the positive stuff from games, not missing out some things, but it really is about them being as positive as we can as long as they go about things in the manner I expect from my teams.

“If they do that they know I’ll back them.

“We did speak quite a few times about being more aggressive. It’s about the work ethic, winning more tackles, being more aggressive.

“That’s something that is important for us.”

Ferguson continues to focus on what one win could do for a Rovers side that has not been victorious in their last 15 attempts.

He said: “We need to get that win, we need to get it soon and you hope then it can catapult us to a few more.

“You have to hope that one win comes soon and gives you that belief we can get more wins to get out of it.

“We’vwe made it difficult for ourselves, there’s no getting away from it.”
