Doncaster Rovers face nervous wait on Tommy Rowe injury

Doncaster Rovers face a nervous wait on skipper Tommy Rowe after he suffered a hamstring injury during Tuesday night's Checkatrade Trophy defeat.

Rowe was forced off just 17 minutes into the defeat to Newcastle United U21s.

The 28-year-old underwent surgery on a hamstring injury in April.

But boss Grant McCann has attempted to allay fears Rowe may have suffered a recurrence.

'We don't know just yet,' McCann said.

'It is his hamstring. I don't think it's the bit he did last season and had the operation on.

'We're hoping it's not too bad because he put in his best performance of the season on Saturday at Peterborough.

'He had to do a job for us at left back on Tuesday night.

'So it's frustrating for us on that part as well.'

There is more positive news over the man Rowe was deputising at left back on Tuesday, Danny Andrew.

The full back suffered a foot injury last weekend but is set to be available for Saturday's clash with Luton Town at the Keepmoat.

'Danny Andrew is fit and he will be fine,' McCann said.

'Joe Wright will be fine, James Coppinger will be fine, Ben Whiteman will be fine.

'We're looking okay. It's just Tommy Rowe and Mitchell Lund, who got a deadleg.'

Lund was forced off after 32 minutes of his first start of the season, with McCann sending on Niall Mason, who he had intended to rest.

But he says playing almost an hour will have done Mason no harm.

'Niall is fine,' he said. 'He's played every minute of every game before Tuesday night so it was an opportunity to give Mitchell a game.

'Unfortunately he's come off with a deadleg.

'Niall came on and I thought he did well for us. He gave us a bit of spark, putting balls into the box.'
