And the bad memories continue to motivate the 29-year-old as Doncaster Rovers hit the home straight in League Two.
“Obviously last year was horrible for everyone,” said Alcock, who admitted that Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Crawley was a game Rovers would probably have lost last season.

Hide Ad“But in some ways hopefully we’ve gone one step back to now take two or three forward.
“It is important that you remind yourself [of last season].
“It gives you a little jolt of reality and keeps you focused and motivated.
“You’d definitely rather be competing at the top end of the leagues than the bottom.”
Alcock missed the first three months of the season after damaging ankle ligaments in the pre-season friendly with Newcastle United.

Hide AdHe has started the last six games, most recently switching to left back.
“It was a disappointing start to the season for me with injuries in pre-season,” he said.
“I had to work hard to get back in but that’s a testament to how good a squad we have this season.
“All the injured lads like Luke [McCullough] and Sinks [Aaron Taylor-Sinclair] have been first class with the team and we all feel like one big happy family at the moment so hopefully we can keep that going.”
