Grant McCann declared James Coppinger's wonderstrike at Deeping Rangers as one of the best goals he has ever seen in person.

Coppinger delivered a stunning scything volley from close to the half way line which looped over Deeping keeper Josh Carpenter and bounced into the roof of the net.

And it was the incident on everyone's lips after the game - including the Rovers manager.

"I know it's a friendly again and it's against Deeping Rangers on a Wednesday night and no one at Doncaster has probably ever heard of Deeping Rangers," McCann said.

"But that is probably one of the best goals I've ever seen live.

"I just looked at Cliff [Byrne, assistant] on the bench and I didn't know what to say to him.

"Just for him to catch it on the half volley like that, the way he hit it.

"And then he just walked away from it like he knew it was in.

"It was one of the best goals I've ever seen live.

"He's scored some memorable goals down the years for Doncaster.

"And, that one, I'm sure if it was in a league game they'd have been talking about it for years to come."

Coppinger played 60 minutes against Deeping as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

And McCann was delighted with his contribution.

"Copps is different class," he said.

"The way he manipulates the ball and sees pictures, plays off his back foot. You can't buy that.

"He was outstanding again on Wednesday."
