Chaplow impressed after being handed a start in Rovers’ agonising defeat at Bury last weekend.

But the midfielder had been granted just 16 minutes in the previous four games and said it had been difficult looking on as Rovers failed to pick up the wins they so desperately need.

“It’s frustrating to watch from a personal point of view, watching a team that’s not winning football matches and sliding down the league and not getting any minutes,” he told The Star. “Your destiny is almost taken out of your own hands and it’s not a nice position to be in.

“But again I’m part of a squad and the team and all I want Doncaster Rovers to do is win football games and get three points.

“My mentality has not changed in that respect.

“Yes it would be nice to get more minutes but it hasn’t been that way in the last four or five games.

“But I got on the pitch at Bury and the result is still the same.

“We haven’t got the three points and it’s still just as frustrating.”

Rovers face a tough task as they chase a vital win this weekend when they host Wigan Athletic.

Chaplow says the identity of the opposition is no real concern as Rovers need four wins from five games to have any chance of survival.

He said: “Wigan are one of if not the best team in the league.

“I don’t think it matters who you put in front of us now, we’ve just got to football games.

“I have no doubt if we play like we did at Bury then we’ll create chances. Hopefully we can stick them away.”
