Doncaster Rovers: Business as usual for Darren Ferguson after father's illness

Ferguson missed the final match of the season against Wigan Athletic after dad Sir Alex Ferguson was rushed into hospital on the morning of the game and underwent surgery for a brain haemorrhage.

Though he has been keeping close watch on his father’s recovery, Ferguson has been able to carry out his usual business for this stage of the closed season.

In the days leading up to the final fixture of the season, the Rovers boss presented a list of transfer targets to the club’s board along with assistant manager Gavin Strachan and head of recruitment Russ Wilcox.

Negotiations over potential deals would then pass to chief executive Gavin Baldwin, meaning Ferguson’s presence in Doncaster during the early weeks of post-season is typically minimal.

Ferguson has been monitoring the on-going situation as usual.

Rovers are set to announce another pre-season friendly in the next few days.

It is understood this fixture will be against EFL opposition and be held at the Keepmoat.

Friendlies away at Alfreton Town (July 7) and Frickley Athletic (July 10) have already been confirmed.
