Doncaster Rovers: Blackpool trip '˜won't be a day at the beach'

Doncaster Rovers assistant boss Gavin Strachan has warned his side not to take Blackpool lightly this afternoon.

Seventeenth-placed Blackpool have won just three league games so far this term as they acclimatise to life in League Two.

But they have lost just once at Bloomfield Road and Strachan says today’s clash will be far from easy for high-flying Rovers.

“Blackpool are a tough team,” he said.

“They’ve maybe not started off as strong as they would have wanted and maybe as some of their performances have merited.

“But we watched them when they were at home against Portsmouth and that was probably the best performance out of possession from a team that I’ve seen this season.

“They were excellent that day.

“There’s players we know really well there. They’ve got a selection of strikers, Vassell, Gnanduillet, Cullen, Matt – they’ve got quite a lot of riches up front.

“And they’ve got Jack Payne in midfield who we had at Peterborough.

“They’ve got some real good solid players and a good manager in Gary Bowyer who is really organised.

“It’ll be a really tough game.

“We know, certainly on their patch, that we’re going to have to be really at it to get something from the game.”

Rovers could pick up their fourth consecutive league win this afternoon and Strachan says the team is working hard to achieve momentum by constantly improving.

He said: “For any team wanting to be successful you have to go on runs of wins and not getting beat.

“As the manager has said, it’s very much an environment of demanding improvement and wanting better.

“That is how we spend our weeks.
