Doncaster Rovers: Ben Whiteman happy to keep taking '˜good bookings'

The midfielder sat out last weekend's win at Plymouth Argyle after collecting five yellow cards in the league in just nine matches.

Whiteman is expected to return to the starting XI tonight when Rovers travel to Accrington Stanley but says there will be no change in his game or hesitation in picking up more bookings.

'I don't know if it's possible really,' he said when asked if he could avoid bookings in the future.

'You've seen that we're a really aggressive team. You've seen with the full backs being so high up the pitch.

'We want to score as many goals as we can.

'Sometimes it's three on three at the back with me, Joe Wright and Andy Butler.

'That's the way it is. That's the way we want to play football, free-flowing and attacking.

'If we have to take the yellow cards, we have to take them.

'We're not bothered.'

Most, if not all, of Whiteman's yellow cards came when preventing the opposition breaking clear from around the half way line.

With Grant McCann's style of play seeing Rovers committing plenty of men forward, Whiteman says it is up to him in his deeper-lying midfield role to halt the opposition in their tracks, along with the centre halves.

'I wouldn't say any of the tackles have been over the top,' he said.

'I think they've been stopping counter attacks.

'You'd probably call them good bookings.

'That's probably where they've come from for me and Andy Butler, who is on four yellow cards.

'I wouldn't say I need to tone down the aggression.

'I feel like they've been cards that I've had to take.'
