Doncaster Rovers: Andy Butler given all clear after back scare

Andy Butler will be fit for Doncaster Rovers' trip to Exeter City this weekend after being given the all clear on his back injury suffered at Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

There were worrying scenes at the end of Rovers' FA Cup defeat when Butler received lengthy treatment before being stretchered off the field and taken to hospital.

But an x-ray revealed no damage to the club captain's spine and boss Darren Ferguson expects him to be fit for the weekend.

"He had an x-ray after the game and there's no break so it's good news," Ferguson said.

"He's in a lot of pain. There's a lot of bruising but there's no break which is the important thing.

"He took a hell of a knock. The goalkeeper caught his knee right into his spine and he was in a bit of distress as everyone saw after the game.

"He'll be fine for Saturday I would think. He's a tough boy, it takes a lot for Buts to go down.

"He'll train Thursday and we're pretty confident he will be fit for Saturday."

Regardless of the injury, Butler would not have been involved in Tuesday night's Checkatrade Trophy clash with Port Vale.
