Three years ago Beestin was playing in the Leeds Sunday League.

But last season saw the 20-year-old really step up to the plate in League One with Doncaster Rovers.

The former Tadcaster Albion forward made 33 appearances in all competitions and was among the nominees for the Players’ Player of the Year award at the club’s end of season dinner.

Rowe has previously waxed lyrical about Beestin’s technical ability and the midfielder has no concerns about his mentality or attitude.

“I’ve said so many times now just how good Alfie is,” said Rowe, who is recovering from surgery on his hamstring and faces a race to be fit for the new season.

“The form he’s been in hasn’t changed him as a person but you can seen his confidence has grown.

“He’s been brilliant for us and scored some important goals, his all round play for someone so young is fantastic and I’m looking forward to seeing him improve further.

“Alfie is the sort of play who will benefit from the manager and the coaching staff here, they have a proven track record of bringing players like him through and developing them into top players.

“It’s important for him that he stays level-headed, but I think he will because he’s that sort of person.

“He just takes it game by game and credit to him for that.”

n Rovers will visit Alfreton Town on Saturday, July 7 (3pm) as part of their pre-season preparations.

Alfreton finished 17th in National League North last season.

Rovers will visit Frickley Athletic three days later on July 10.
