Doncaster RLFC: Three club records broken in win over West Wales

It proved to be a record-breaking day for Doncaster RLFC as they topped the 100-point mark for the first time in their history in their League One clash against West Wales Raiders at Featherstone, writes Steve Hossack.

Dual-registered Liam Harris set two new club records when kicking 15 goals and also finishing with 38 points in the 102-6 win.

“I can’t remember the last time I practiced my goal-kicking because I don’t kick for Hull,” said Harris, who started the game at full-back before switching to his preferred scrum-half role in the second.

Harris was snapped up by Super League giants Hull FC earlier in the season to provide cover at half-back but as part of the deal the Black & Whites pledged they would allow him to return to Doncaster when not needed.

“I’m pleased how it is going at Hull, where I’ve been playing in the Super League, but it was also good to be back at Doncaster where I started the season,” said Harris after his first game for the club in six weeks.

“I was pleased with how it went on both a personal level and as far as the team was concerned because it was important that the club improved its points difference which might prove crucial in their bid to make the play-offs though hopefully it won’t come down to that.

“We expected that we would win comfortably given their record but you can never predict by how many.

“We also wanted to lay a platform for the two big games against Hunslet and Oldham over the next fortnight.”

With several other results going their way over the weekend, with defeats for Oldham, Hunslet and Workington, the Dons are now only two points adrift of a play-off spot with nine games to go.
