Doncaster RLFC: Pete Green gives his verdict on victory over London Skolars

The third-placed Dons ran in eight tries as they bounced back from successive league and cup defeats.

“It was a physical game as we had expected but I thought we handled it well. We always looked dangerous when we moved the ball wide,” said assistant coach Pete Green.

“We got off to a good start but we let them back into it and we were only slightly in front at half time.

“We spoke during the interval about controlling the ball better and playing with more tempo and we did that in the second half.

“Even though we were only four points ahead we were always confident that if we played like we know we can that we’d win the game.

“We scored a couple of early tries after the break and that got us back on the front foot.

“We let them back in the game slightly – which we need to stop doing - and they cut our lead to ten points at one stage.

“We possibly don’t give sides like London, who are a strong physical team, the respect that they deserve at times and we try and over-play. Had our passing along the line been better I’m sure we’d have posted more points against them.

“I never thought we were going to lose and we lasted the pace well and scored three late tries.”

The Dons fielded a new-look half-back partnership which Green felt worked well.

“Liam Harris controlled the ball and Hakim (Miloudi) was always dangerous,” he said.

Returning full-back Richard Owen also caught Green’s eye.

“He organises the defensive line and communicates really well which is probably something we’d lacked in our previous two games,” he said.

Hooker Kieran Cross (bicep) and prop Russ Spiers (sternum) both picked up knocks.

“We’ll monitor them during the week,” said Green.
