Green is currently heading a coaching team in caretaker charge of the side following the departure of Gary Thornton earlier this week.

While insisting his concentration is fully on winning games during his caretaker spell, the former club captain, whose appointment as head coach would be welcomed by many supporters, makes no secret of the fact he would like to be considered for the job.

“I’ve worked with Gary on the systems in place and I also know the players and the division,” he told The Star.

Green will also play for the Dons on Sunday in their trip to Hemel Stags with Jamie Thackray and Jason Muranka out through suspension and injury respectively.

Feka Paleaaesina could be out for several weeks after suffering an Achilles tendon injury at the weekend while in-form Mark Castle faces a late test on an ankle injury.

“Apart from any injuries we pick up we are looking for a bit more consistency in selection,” he said.

“We’ve probably chopped and changed the side a bit too much at times.

“But we won’t be making a lot of changes to the gameplan we had under Gary.

“Our main focus, as I said earlier, is to improve our attitude and intensity.”

Looking ahead to Sunday’s game, Green said: “It’s obviously a game we need to win and one that we should win in view of the fact that they’ve been struggling this season.

“But you’ve always got guard against complacency and we don’t want to there and get turned over.

“We want to put on a good performance ahead of next weekend’s home game against Keighley which is going to be massive.”

“I’m sure some people have written off our promotion prospects, and I can understand why, but as a group we still believe in ourselves and that we can compete with the top clubs in this division.”
