Doncaster RLFC 44 Workington Town 32: Dons set new club record in play-off dress rehearsal

Doncaster RLFC created a new club record of ten successive league and cup wins when beating fourth-placed Workington Town 44-32 in their final Betfred League One game of the season at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The third-placed Dons never looked back after racing into a 20-4 lead midway through the first half and will not lack confidence in Sunday's play-off semi-final against the same opposition on the same ground.

But, in scoring six tries in defeat, the fourth-placed Cumbrians will also fancy their chances in a game which is likely to be much more intense than this free-scoring affair.

Having been well beaten at Derwent Park in June the Dons were determined to put the record straight and give themselves a psychological advantage ahead of the play-offs and that was reflected in an impressive first quarter display.

Town had no answer to some slick handling and clinical finishing as centre Jack Logan, full-back Jack Sanderson, scrum-half Matty Beharrell and centre Aaron Jones-Bishop all touched down as dual-registered half-back Liam Harris helped pull the strings deputising for the injured Jordan Howden at stand-off.

A brace by Town second-rower Jacob Moore either side of a second by Logan cut the deficit to 26-14 early in the second half and served to give them renewed hope of a double.

But loose-forward Jason Muranka and Harris bagged quickly-taken tries, both converted by Beharrell, to open up a 38-14 lead.

Town produced a spirited response and scored three of the last four tries.

The only addition to the Dons tally was a second try by Sanderson on 71 minutes.

They had lost Logan minutes earlier with an ankle injury which looked serious enough to at least make him a doubt for Sunday.
