Wes Scantlin, lead singer of American rock band Puddle Of Mudd was booed and jeered by angry fans after a sell-out concert at the town's Diamond Live Lounge last night descended into chaos.

The singer swigged from a bottle of Southern Comfort, drank beer and smoked onstage at the Wood Street venue at the concert which started late and finished ahead of schedule after the star walked off stage after angering fans with incomprehensible onstage rants.

Some fans also alleged the singer, who has been arrested ten times during a turbulent career, also boasted of taking crack cocaine. A video of the shambolic concert later showed the singer being jeered and sworn at by angry fans.

Now Julie Buckley, manager of nearby Cask Corner, where the star was spotted ahead of the gig posing for photographs in a coffin ahead of the concert, has spoken of a chat with Scantlin before the show and how the singer, best known for 2001 hit Blurry had "demons."

In a Facebook post, she wrote: "Just to let you know, I was the person who was with Wes most of the time that he was in Cask Corner.

"He only had £6 in English money and so he had three drinks (the third on me as that is when he realised he didn't have any more English money).

"He spent his time mainly with me as we weren't busy when he first came and he was telling me about his lovely new girlfriend and I let him use my phone to ring his dad.

She said Scantlin then had a long chat with my her dad about medals including the Victoria Cross and Purple Hearts as he had a purple heart in his bag.

She added: "I was gone an hour and he was not in when I got back.

"A customer bought him an Erdinger in the time I was absent and we think another may have bought him a Makers Mark. He was not getting rolling drunk on our watch as we don't allow that sort of behaviour, famous or not.

"When he was showing my dad the Purple Heart, dad did notice a bottle of Southern Comfort in his bag and I gave the staff a heads up to keep their eye on him.

"And with regard to drugs, he definitely did not have the opportunity to do any of those (and didn't appear to be under the influence of them) and when we were talking I told him I had ZERO TOLERANCE to anything of that nature.

"He informed me that he used to do cocaine but he didn't anymore thanks to the new girl in his life - whether this is true or not I do not know.

"He seemed a nice bloke but he certainly has his demons and I hope he gets the help he desperately needs. It's a shame he messed up especially for our friends at Diamond who work so hard to make their great venue the fab place that it is and they cannot and should not be held accountable."

The band were due to play a concert in Swansea tonight.
