A report from England’s Chief Inspector of Hospitals rated Park Hill Hospital as requiring improvement following a Care Quality Commission inspection earlier this year.

The facility, which is attached to DRI but is run privately by Ramsay Healthcare Group under the name Independent British Healthcare Limited, carries out treatments including hysterectomies, bunion removal, gall bladder removal, knee/hip replacement, forefoot reconstruction, cataract surgery along with cosmetic surgery such as breast enlargement, tummy tuck, liposuction and facial surgery.

Professor Sir Mike Richards carried out a three day inspection at the hospital in August and found it required improvement overall in its surgery and outpatient and diagnostic imaging.

Among the findings, Sir Richards said the facility must ensure that incidents are appropriately identified and reported, comprehensively investigated and that lessons learned are shared with all staff. This followed one serious event in the past 12 months when there was the surgical placement of the wrong implant or prosthesis.

He said: “All staff must receive appropriate levels of safeguarding and manual handling training for their job roles,” and, “The provider must also ensure that infection prevention and control measures are in place.”

He did add that at the time of the inspection the hospital manager and matron had only been in post for eight to 12 weeks so had not yet had time to fully assess or address any issues they had identified, continuing: “However, the senior team was proactive in identifying areas for improvement and told us about a range of actions that they planned to take place.”

Park Hill Hospital has 21 beds with six outpatient consulting rooms, a treatment room, and dedicated use of a fully-equipped laminar flow theatre
