A 24-year-old man from Doncaster has won just under £3,000, after placing a £10 bet on Middlesbrough and Bradford to win in Saturday’s FA cup tie.

Plumber, James Howe, placed £10 on his selections, the two biggest outsiders on a day of FA Cup shocks, landing himself nearly £3000 in the process.

“I had another accumulator with Manchester City and Chelsea in it but after watching Cambridge United bag themselves a draw against my side, Manchester United, I thought I would have to have a cheeky tenner on the other two underdogs,” said Mr Howe, of Newark Road, Rossington.

He continued: “I’m glad I did!”

When James placed the bet he was given incredibly long odds of 285/1 on both teams winning, and is one of only two people across the country to have backed both underdog teams on those odds.

“It was a day of shocks which often leaves punters cursing their luck, however we have managed to find a couple of punters who still believe in the magic of the Cup and won big by backing the underdogs,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
