Doncaster man to stand trial over Branton fireball crash today

A 21-year-old man is set to stand trial today charged with a string of offences relating to a Doncaster fireball collision that resulted in the death of two men.

James Maughan of Marshland Road, Moorends, is due to go on trial today at Sheffield Crown Court charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision, failing to report a road traffic collision as well as a public order offence.

The collision occurred at around 12.50pm on August 25 last year, when a Renault Megane was involved in a collision with a house in Poppyfields Way, Branton.

Five people were believed to have been in the car at the time of the collision: two men, Liam Aldred, 26, and Dean McIntyre, 27, who died as a result of the collision, two 21-year-old men and a 15-year-old boy were also injured.
