Doncaster Knights: Flockhart will not be rushed back from injury

Clive Griffiths has promised not to rush leading points scorer Dougie Flockhart back from injury.

Flockhart, the Championship’s top scorer with 163 points, needed surgery on the bicep he tore against Rotherham three weeks ago.

Knights will be keen to get their long-serving Scot fit for a prospective play-off campaign in May but director of rugby Griffiths will tread carefully.

“It’s obviously a big blow losing Dougie because he’s the best goal kicker in the league and he has been playing well,” said the Welshman.

“It’s difficult to put a time on how long he’ll be out and we’ll not try and rush him back before he is ready.

“The good thing is that the injury wasn’t as bad as the one suffered by Bevon Armitage earlier in the season. He was out for 12 weeks so hopefully Dougie could be fit again in six weeks, but then he’s got to get his confidence back before he’s ready to play again.

Meanwhile, full-back Paul Jarvis was expected to have a scan on the foot injury he sustained against Yorkshire Carnegie.

“He’s a big player for us so it would be a blow if he was ruled out for any period of time,” said Griffiths.

“It could have been a problem losing him just before half time on Saturday, but fortunately things worked out okay for us with Simon Humberstone coming on and taking over at fly-half and Declan Cusack switching to full-back.”
