Doncaster housing plan set to go ahead despite warning over loss of open space

Doncaster Council officials approved the scheme this week, which would see nine properties built on what the planning application described as an ‘amenity grass area’ at St George’s Close.

Thorne Moorends Town Council put in an objection to the scheme.

It stated: “The proposal would result in the loss of any area of open space, with Thorne being deficient in amenity space.

“The scheme represents an over-development of the site. 
“The proposal includes a large hard surfaced car parking area which is out of keeping with nearby development.

“The proposal would be detrimental to the amenity of local residents.”

Most of the homes that developer Rebrook Homes plans to build on the site are due to be bungalows, according to the planning application for the land.

But seven out of eight people who returned questionnaires on the scheme said they were happy with the plans. A report said the land was not very suitable to be used as a children’s play area.

Doncaster Council has placed a series of conditions on the planning permission including work to keep the site safe from flooding.
