Figures for local authorities across England and Wales show Doncaster Council handed out 3,559 fines in the 2014-15 school year, - just slightly less than Lancashire County Council who topped the table with 4,279 fines.
The figures come from Santander bank, which received responses from 129 of the 174 local authorities responsible for education in England and Wales following a freedom of information (FoI) request.
The information shows parents in England and Wales fined an estimated £5.6m in last academic year.
Damian Allen, Director of Learning Opportunities & Skills said: “Regular attendance at school is very important for every child. Doncaster Council will continue to promote the importance of regular school attendance to all parents and where appropriate issue FPNs and take court action, in accordance with Department for Education guidance.”
