Staff from Grand Central Rail handed over £500 to the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust, a Doncaster-based charity focused on helping fund equipment and facilities to prevent, detect, treat and cure cancer. The group is the charity partner of the Doncaster Free Press and together we are aiming to raise £1 million to bring radiotherapy services to Doncaster for the first time with our Miles Better Million campaign.

The visit to the Frenchgate Shopping Centre during the annual Memory Tree campaign was part of the train company’s Grand Gestures scheme.

Designed to support local communities across the North East and Yorkshire region, the scheme rewards local charities, community groups and regional initiatives, nominated by Grand Central stakeholders and key regional media figures that positively impact on the lives of others in the local community.

The Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust is currently in the process of raising £1 million to bring radiotherapy to Doncaster, while closely working with the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The charity aims to bring new scanning facilities and a brand new treatment suite to the Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Sean English, Acting Managing Director at Grand Central, said: “At Grand Central, we take pride in supporting the local communities along our routes and the Grand Gestures scheme is just one way in which we do this.

“We regularly work with partners and friends of Grand Central to identify local causes in need of a boost in order to make them ‘feel grand’ and are delighted to be able to do the same with Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust, which was recommended by Doncaster Free Press.”

We look forward to making a positive difference in the lives of those affected by cancer with this contribution.”
