Doncaster British Empire Medal holder and retired police sergeant dies

A Doncaster holder of the British Empire Medal has died at the age of 83.

Retired Doncaster police officer Arthur Morris, who lived in Intake, died on January 4.

The former sergeant was awarded the BEM in 1968 following the arrest of suspects for a murder in Bessacarr, according to NAPRO, the National Association of Retired Police Officers.

The husband of Shirley and father of Paul, Andrew and Tracy, Mr Morris's obituary described him as "a devoted grandad and good friend to many."

It added: "He will be sadly missed by all who knew him."

The funeral will take place at Rose Hill Crematorium at 3pm on Thursday 21 January 2016 and afterwards at The Sportsman, Armthorpe Road. Family flowers only.
