Doncaster animal rescue centre in desperate plea for cash as closure looms

Rooster Farm and Rescue, which is based in Bentley, is struggling to stay afloat – and owners Jodie Swann and Aaron Kincaid have called for urgent donations so the centre can keep caring for hundreds of animals.

Making the appeal on Facebook she wrote: “With everything that has gone on over the last couple of months - fire, theft and struggling to keep the rescue afloat, we are looking to shut Rooster Farm due to lack of help, support and funding from the government.

"I am begging you all to help and dig deep as this is totally breaking my heart, the thought of having to shut for good. Please any amount will really. Please save Rooster Farm and Rescue from shutting completely.”

The farm is home to hundreds of chickens and roosters, geese, turkeys and rabbits, rescued from various locations across Yorkshire.

She added: “We have worked extremely hard to where the rescue is today we have put blood, sweat, tears, money, time and love to make this possible.

"Me and Aaron have had a long hard chat and the outcome depends on you. With Aaron's ill health, the rescue has been in financial difficulties and is struggling to stay afloat.

"Our own savings are simply running out. We have over 100 animals and the cost to run the rescue is around £600 per month.”

The farm was recently involved in the recapturing and rehoming of runaway emu Ethel who went on the run and spent 12 days on the loose in Doncaster.

The bird initially escaped from a property in Sprotbrough on August 6, after apparently being startled by passers by taking her photograph.

Earlier this year, the pair managed to save 3,000 chickens who were destined for the slaughterhouse.
