Doncaster Alliance League round-up: Canal Tavern close in on Premier Division title

Canal Tavern need a maximum of three points from their last three games to successfully defend the Doncaster Sunday Alliance League Premier Division title after beating Scawthorpe Athletic 7-0.

Lewis Andrew led the way with a hat trick and there was a double for substitute Danny Smith. Brett Thomas and Aiden Marshall also chipped in.

A hat trick by Ben Clark saw third-placed Rakkam keep their hopes of a top-two finish alive with a 6-3 victory at Stainforth New Inn. Steffan Cairns, Jack Bonsor and Brett Lucas also weighed in.

Atletico Rec and Rum Rooms, for whom Henry Sibenge (2) and Pete Walmsley netted, shared the spoils from a 3-3 draw.

Team 23 (Lee Drobac 2, Paul Preskey, own goal) missed out on the chance to go level on points with Championship leaders Balby Athletic when going down 6-4 at home to third-placed AFC Schoolboy.

Real Bridge A claimed a 4-1 win at Dunscroft Social.

Common Road took over top spot in Division Two when beating third-placed FC Ivanhoe (John Akings, Paul Bradley) 3-2.

Dark horses Upton Wrangbrook, beaten just once in the league, posted a 3-1 win over visiting Windmill Wanderers on the back of goals by Scott Clarke, Todd Williamson and Cory Woodward.

Rum Rooms beat Scawthorpe Athletic 6-3 in their Premier Division clash on Thursday night. Lovejoy Chidongo (3), Sibenge, Walmsley and Joe Fisher netted for the winners with Jordan Hendry, Michael Attard and Vaz Lindley replying.

FC Cumberland (John Glynn, Scott Hall, own goal) won 3-2 at Auckley on the same night.

Durban Rhino’s beat Dunscroft Social 2-0 with Woodfield (Kierron Locking) and The Salutation (Waldron) battling out a 1-1 draw in the other Division One clash.

A Liam Womersley hat trick laid the foundations for Upton Wrangbrook’s 6-1 Division Two win on the same night. Joe Lynch, Reece Twigg and Mark Lynch also found the net.
