Donation for St Wilfrid's '“ but more help is needed

Smart Graffiti, who are based in Ireland, have said they will donate spray paint remover to help St Wilfrid’s.

Staff at the centre on Queens Road in Highfield were shocked to find that graffiti had been mindless scrawled all over the building – some of which is several feet high.

They have welcomed the donation, however help is still needed as the worst area of graffiti is above a ledge near the roof .

Staff are not able to reach the spray paint to get it off without either using scaffolding or a cherry picker.

Action Desk is calling for anyone that could help to come forward if they have equipment and could oversee the clean up in a safe manner.

Kevin Bradley, director of the centre, said the damage could cost St Wilfrid’s thousands of pounds to clean up if they were to do it alone.

“This centre is supposed to be a safe place for people to come to and for them to feel at home. To take that from people in need, it’s just horrendous.

“I just don’t know how someone could do that.”

He added that the removal of the vandalism could be costly to the centre, taking away money that should be used for more important services.

And even more shocking – this is not the fist time the charity has been targeted and are facing a constant battle against graffiti.

Last July vandals ripped out benches, tore up rose bushes and sprayed graffiti at the charity’s base, upsetting both staff and people visiting the centre.

And in a separate incident thugs scaled a wall to smash up the charity’s minibus – which was used to take service users to trips and activities – and steal the sliding doors in a bizarre theft.
