Page four: Coun Mary Lea, Sheffield Council’s cabinet member for health, said the authority has a number of schemes in place, such as a project offering support with healthy eating and physical activity.

She also said: “In Sheffield we are determined to tackle the issue of obesity before it leads to people having serious health problems or leads to hospital treatment.”

It could mean the council will talk about it and do nothing about it. It must cost more to treat obese people than to help keep them fit.
