Dominic skates home with sports award

Dominic Barter has been skating since he was eight-years-old.

Since beginning ice dancing at 11, he has won an impressive four British Championship medals, including the British Solo Ice Dance Championships Pre-Novice Men just eight months after he took up the sport. He partnered up with fellow-skater Alice three months ago and the pair achieved a bronze medal at the last British Championships, and came first in all three of their events recently at the Sheffield IJS competition at iceSheffield.

He has trained with Olympic coach Jimmy Young, performed in front of 9,000 people at the Ice Sheffield Christmas Ice Show, skated as part of the opening ceremony at the 2012 European Skating Championships, which was choreographed by Robin Cousins, and has his sets sight on the next Winter Olympics in 2018.

Dominic won the Sports Award at Star Superkids, presented to him by Stocksbridge Leisure Centre.

Mum Louise, who nominated him, said: “Dominic has all round determination and a wonderful character.”
