CAMERON DAWSON 6

Looked nervy at times and will probably feel he should have done better for Afobe's opener. Redeemed himself after the break, pulling off a superb reflex save to thwart the lively frontman.

LIAM PALMER 6

Was unable to get forward as much as he would have liked to support the attack. Defended resolutely, with the majority of Stoke's threat coming down the opposite flank.

TOM LEES 6

Given little protection by the midfield early on as Stoke threatened to run riot. Produced a number of important headers and clearances, although his distribution was not always the best.

JORDAN THORNILEY 6

Both Thorniley and Lees found it difficult to get to grips with Stoke's quick, athletic forward line in the opening quarter of the contest. Wonderful diving defensive header to prevent Afobe claiming a hat-trick.

MATT PENNEY 6

Produced one immaculate challenge in the first half to stop Ince in his track. Ince is a proven operator at this level but Penney stood tall and gave a good account of himself.

JOEY PELUPESSY 4

Not his day. Gave the ball away cheaply on a number of occasions and saw three efforts from outside the penalty area go high over bar. Is far too inconsistent right now in the midfield engine room.

BARRY BANNAN 9

Immense. Pulled the strings and was at the heart of everything good about Wednesday. The classy Scot was the architect of Matias's goal, with his long ball from deep carving Stoke open at the back. Stunning equaliser.

ADAM REACH 6

Put in a hard-working shift but was not at his influential best. His decision-making in the final third was far from perfect, although he had a fierce shot from outside the penalty area well saved by Butland.

MARCO MATIAS 6

Took his goal ever so well after great play by Bannan but offered little else. Too often was ushered down a blind alley and surrendered possession easily. Must do better to retain his place in the side.

LUCAS JOAO 6

Faded after a bright start. Kept trying to make things happen with his pace and power but his final pass let him down. Had few sights at goal.

STEVEN FLETCHER 6

Struggled to make an impact. Although he chested down Bannan's throughball for Matias' strike, the striker was well shackled by Stoke's backline. Desperately needs a goal to ignite his season.

ATDHE NUHIU (68) 7

Gave the Owls a different attacking option. Worked tirelessly and combined neatly with Penney for his second half chance.

JOSH ONOMAH (68) 6

Showed plenty of effort. Better days ahead.
