Dog seized by police after woman was mauled in Sheffield street

A dog has been seized by South Yorkshire Police after a woman was mauled in a Sheffield street.

The dog was identified after officers were brought in to investigate an attack on a 31-year-old woman as she walked along Richmond Road, Woodthorpe.

The woman needed 40 stitches to her hand and face after at the attack.

She told officers she approached a stray Shar-Pei type dog to check whether it was wearing a collar.

South Yorkshire Police said she suffered ‘serious scarring’ in the attack.

The owner of the dog believed to be responsible is due to be interviewed.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “A Shar-Pei dog has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation. The owner will be interviewed in the near future. Any further witnesses are welcome to contact us."
