DNA evidence is not perfect

Have your say

PHIL Holberry bays for capital punishment, claiming wrongful convictions are no longer possible. This is simply not true. DNA can be contaminated and prosecution expert witnesses turned out to be far from infallible.

When police come under pressure to produce a result they are not above ‘fitting up’ some harmless eccentric.

Barry George was jailed for Jill Dando’s shooting on evidence that would not convict a cat of stealing milk and Stefan Kiszko spent 16 years in jail for a crime he was neither physically nor temperamentally capable of committing. At least he died a free man, knowing his name had been cleared. Had he been hanged this would not have been the case.
