Divorce teams expect surge in enquiries after failed holidays

Divorce lawyers in Sheffield say they are bracing themselves for a surge in enquiries this month.

Statistics show 42 per cent of marriages end in divorce, and it is September and January that see the biggest spikes in separations.

The family law team at Irwin Mitchell found 49 per cent of couples took a holiday to save their relationship, but over half admitted it didn’t help.

Martin Loxley, divorce lawyer at Irwin Mitchell said: “When shop windows are filled with ‘back to school’ posters and parents are busy kitting out their children in new uniforms, many couples will also be planning their own new start. Couples tend to have spent more time together over the past six weeks and that can cement previously held views their relationship isn’t working.”
