Disruption as pipes replaced

WATER bosses are to replace a 100-year-old water pipe in Sheffield - after seven leaks in five years.

From Tuesday, work will get under way on the £80,000 project to replace 335m of the Victorian-era cast-iron pipe which runs under the A57 Manchester Road, between Tapton House Road and the junction with Fulwood Road, Broomhill.

The pipe will be replaced with a new plastic version by engineering specialists Balfour Beatty Utility Services.

Work is expected to take eight weeks, with Yorkshire Water pledging to do everything it can to keep disruption to a minimum.
