Disabled Sheffield man conned by bogus council workers

A disabled man was targeted by bogus council workers who stole his safe.

The 64-year-old, who is wheelchair bound, answered his door to two men claiming to work for the council and who said they needed to check his doors and window frames.

The men, who were wearing high visibility jackets, spent around 30 minutes in his house before claiming they needed to leave to collect a drill.

They never returned and their victim, from Rider Road, Hillsborough, later realised that his safe had been stolen.

It contained a large amount of cash and documents.

The other was between 30 and 35, around 5ft 10ins tall, of a lean build and was wearing a black beanie hat and black trousers.

DC Ian Talbot, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "Anyone who has any information about this incident or believes they may know the men described are urged to contact police.

"Any piece of information, even if you believe it to be irrelevant, could assist in our investigation and enable us to identify the men.

"A vulnerable man has been targeted and we will do everything we can to ensure justice is achieved."
