Dinnington bidding to boost FA Cup windfall

DINNINGTON Town continue their remarkable FA Cup adventure tomorrow when they entertain high-flying UniBond Division One North side Bradford Park Avenue in the third qualifying round, in probably the biggest game in the club's history

It is Town's sixth game in the competition, in what is their first venture into the world's most famous domestic cup competition.

The run has already netted Dinnington over 7,000 in prize money and the coffers will be boosted by a further 5,000 should they overcome Bradford. But more importantly it would put them within 90 minutes of the first round proper which would be an outstanding achievement for a club from Division One of the Northern Counties Division One.

Whether or not the achieve that goal, it has already been an outstanding run by Town, who are in only their second season in the NCE League, and one that will be remembered for years to come.

One thing for sure, Dinnington will not be overawed by their visitors, indeed Bradford will have much to worry about with Steve Toyne's men going into the tie on the back of three successive wins and just one defeat in 10 outings this season.

Toyne's opposite number Benny Phillips will have learned little from his visit to Laughton Road on Tuesday when the Bradford boss came to run the rule over Town in their 1-0 Senior Cup win over Yorkshire Main. In that game the Dinnington boss rested a number of his first team players.

Matlock Town travel to Harrogate Railway for a 1.30pm kick-off in what is an all UniBond League clash.

It looks a tricky tie for the Gladiators despite losing just once in the last six and including an excellent 3-1 win over Blue Square high-flyers Telford United in the last round.

Harrogate, a step down the ladder in the bottom half of Division One North and famed for reaching the second round proper in 2002/03, once again showed their cup pedigree by putting out Blue Square North side Leigh RMI 4-1.
