Dickie Bird scoops award for lifetime achievement

A Yorkshire legend was handed a lifetime achievement award at a prize-giving ceremony.

Barnsley-born Dickie Bird OBE, famed for distinguished career as a cricket umpire, was given the honour by Dalesman magazine.

The former batsman began officiating in 1970 and went on to work as an umpire for 66 test matches.

A host of other names were also honoured.
